How to use LinkedIn automations to grow your newsletter

Most creators miss LinkedIn as a subscriber growth channel. Here’s how to use simple automations to turn your network into high-converting newsletter subscribers.

Why LinkedIn is an overlooked growth channel for newsletters

TL;DR: LinkedIn automations can help niche newsletter creators tap into their first-degree connections for low-cost, high-converting subscriber growth, using tools like HeyReach and MeetAlfred.

Most newsletter creators think about growth in the usual ways: referrals, social, maybe ads, sometimes SEO.

But there’s one channel I’ve been testing with clients that’s surprisingly underused, even though it’s low-cost, high-converting, and—if you do it right—doesn’t feel spammy at all.

I’m talking about LinkedIn automations.

Why LinkedIn?

If you have a niche newsletter and a decent LinkedIn network, you’re probably sitting on a goldmine.

Here’s why:

  • Most of your first-degree connections know you. That means less friction when you reach out.

  • Many are in your industry. Which means your newsletter is often directly relevant.

  • They convert at a high rate. I’ve seen sign-up rates of 15–30% with clients, sometimes even higher.

  • It’s cheap. You’re paying the cost of the tool (usually $49–100 per month), and in one month, you can easily add 100+ subscribers. That’s under $1 per subscriber—no ad spend required.

How it works

You can use tools like HeyReach or MeetAlfred to:

  1. Set up a personalized connection campaign. Focus first on your first-degree connections. That’s where the high trust and relevance are.

  2. Send them a gentle message about your newsletter. Something like, “Hey, I’ve been writing a weekly newsletter on [topic]. Given you’re in [industry], thought you might enjoy it. Here’s the link if you want to check it out.”

  3. Let the automation run. These tools help you send these messages at scale, without you manually copy-pasting all day.

Important: don’t try to hit random people outside your network or blast strangers. This works because you’re reaching people who already know you.

In my experience, this approach works best for:

  • Ultra-niche newsletters

  • Written by real industry experts

  • With strong, relevant LinkedIn networks

If that’s you, you’re probably missing out by not trying this.

What about cost?

The only cost is the tool itself. Even if you run this just for one month, you can get meaningful results.

Example:
MeetAlfred = $49/month
100 subscribers = ~$0.49/subscriber

Most people I work with only need 1–2 months to run a campaign, test it, and walk away with a solid list boost.

Bonus: this works on X, too. LinkedIn isn’t the only place you can do this. There are also tools to run outreach campaigns on X. But I’ll break that down for you in a future issue.

If you’re looking for a smart, underused lever to grow your newsletter, this is one of the first I recommend.

Today’s issue was written while waiting for a flight to a friend’s wedding! Speaking of writing processes, airports are usually where my focus goes through the roof. Don’t ask me why… Airports are chaotic and noisy, but I’ve always found them fun and somehow the perfect place to get work done.

Do you have any special places where writing or working feels a lot easier?
